All is Bright

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

All is Bright

“Silent night, Holy night, all is calm, all is bright.” In November, a super moon hung in the sky and gave a hint of the unusual bright star that shone two thousand years ago. Our super moon may not have had the brilliance of the star the wise men followed, but it was larger and brighter than our normal view of the moon. It’s orbit brought it closer to the earth than usual. The last time it’s orbit was so close was in 1948. The next time will be 2034.

We stood in the yard to gape in hushed silence at the bright moon’s large size and brightness. Remembering the sight now, during Christmas week when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we are reminded of the way God announced the arrival of His Son on earth. An unusually bright star shone to catch the attention of learned wise men as well as humble shepherds, moving them to drop their normal activities to seek the Child the heavens announced. We stand in quiet awe that His humble arrival as a helpless baby was heralded by a mighty sign. Even as we celebrate His birth, we remember His astonishing mission to die a cruel death so that we need not die in our sin.

In the midst of our Christmas  celebration, take time for a moment of calm meditation about Jesus. Let’s marvel that God used a star so bright and unusual to announce the birth of His Son, our savior. Our super moon demonstrates that God still provides marvels. Such marvels encourage us to ask His help to show the light of Jesus to others this Christmas season and every day.
