Beyond Belief Decorations
Wide-eyed, we oohed and aahed at the lavish, colorful Christmas decorations in a restored hotel in honor of Christmas. The bright colors and large, impressive displays certainly put one in a festive mood. Carefully placed amid these lavish decorations, one stood out and anchored our thoughts on the real reason behind the joy of Christmas celebrations. A beautiful nativity scene reminded us that the reason behind the Christmas season isn’t gorgeous, lavish decorations or unbelievably yummy tea, or even delectable food. The reason for the Christmas season is the birth of Jesus in a humble stable where a choir of angels and a group of shepherds came to observe and worship this amazing earth-shaking and world-changing event. Here we are, centuries later, still awed at the marvelous change in Man’s understanding of God’s love for the people He created. We try to create gorgeous decorations to convey our amazement and appreciation for the gift of Jesus, the Savoir of our lives. We join others to convey our joy and awe in this supernatural event.
If every time we hang a bauble on a tree, swirl some greenery into a wreath to represent the unending, eternal life of God, or we prepare a feast o share with others, we use these acts to reflect on God’s magnificent gift to mankind. He sent His Son to earth to show the magnitude of His total love for His people. These acts of decorating have value. They reinforce our appreciation to God and are useful as a witness to others of the great, boundless, beautiful love that is ours for the asking. God, help our appreciation grow for your remarkable action of taking on our human form so that we could better relate to you and bow our hearts in adoration. Help us use all the gestures and actions of Christmas to reinforce our dedication to you.
