Company
I remember from childhood a great excitement that preceded the arrival of company. Menu items were planned to please our anticipated guests. Linens were changed on beds for our guests. We cooked food ahead to freeze for the event. Sometimes flowers might be arranged for the pleasure of our company. Activities for our guests were planned so others besides us could enjoy our company. I still get excited today when we are anticipating company. The prospect of seeing treasured relatives or friends delights our hearts. The older we get the more precious time becomes and therefore the more valued and treasured is time with family and friends. We are thrilled with the prospect of a grandson coming to visit. We are fulfilled when we have the chance to touch a great grandchild. We get vicarious delight when we see others who live in our retirement home with the same delightful opportunity when their family or friends come to visit them. My mother taught me that we can multiply our pleasures when we learn to enjoy the good fortune of others. Therefore, living in a retirement home provides lots of opportunities to rejoice when we see the company our neighbors are privileged to enjoy.
