Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Decorations
Stores sporting big red balls hung from wide red ribbons, trees sparkling with colored lights and hung with gold bells, and front yards exhibiting everything from Santas, candy canes, to Disney characters provide entertainment everywhere we go. Christmas decorations provide delight in December. I love seeing all the lights and over the top decorations in neighborhoods during the Christmas season. Best of all, are the many varieties of Nativity scenes that wrest our attention from the trappings to the reason for the season—Jesus.
The word Christmas evokes the smell of cinnamon, the feel of snow under our feet, the taste of eggnog, the sound of carols at public events. Most important it reminds us that Jesus Christ, a member of the Trinity, who humbled Himself to come to Earth as a helpless baby to suffer the problems of human beings grew into the man who lay down his life on the cross in order that we, you and I, can cross the bridge between imperfect man and our perfect God. Because of Jesus, we can communicate with the almighty God, the Creator of the Universe. We can trust Him with our lives and our life after death. Now that’s a super reason to go over the top in our celebration of Christmas. Let’s make sure to keep Jesus at the heart of our observance in the midst of all the trappings.
