Horse and Buggy
Jingling sleigh bells and the clip, clop of horse hooves can transfer our thoughts to past history where such an experience was commonplace. Horse drawn rides are easier to find at Christmas time and are a lot of fun. Kids love the experience and adults reminisce about bygone days. Following a ride in cold winter air is a good time to enjoy a hot beverage such as hot chocolate. It also offers a good time to talk to the youngsters with us about the modern-day blessings of our present time. Horse and buggy were the only means of getting around in the olden days. Now we get to ride in an enclosed car that we can heat in winter and air condition for comfort in hot weather. Although we do need to wash our cars, we don’t have to clean up their personal refuse as we would with horses. Although we have to put fuel in our cars, they carry us to our destination much faster than animals. Nevertheless, the nostalgia of a buggy or wagon ride is a lot of fun and gives us a good opportunity to count our modern blessings. Christmas is the perfect time to focus on the blessing of the historical birth of Jesus Christ and the great, beautiful changes He brings to us now today and every day.
