No Place for Prima Donnas

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

The music soared through the auditorium lifting hearts with its triumphant sound. The Orchestra played in perfect unison the heart quickening notes of Tchaikovsky’s famed 1812 Overture and later stirred our spirits with the strands of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony as the notes flowed from the violin strings. Almost faster than the eye could comprehend the arms of the twelve violinists flashed up and down perfectly synchronized. That amazing achievement didn’t come quickly. Imagine the hours of practice required to play so perfectly in rhythm. “There’s no room for a prima donna in an orchestra,” I thought as I watched and listened to the beautiful harmony. The conductor set the pace for the orchestra and everyone followed exactly. Imagine how the music would have sounded if each person played at the rate he preferred.

How much more beautifully does the music of our lives flow when we are able to hear the rhythm of our God, who is the conductor of our lives. He sets the timing for the various roles we perform. If we follow the pace he intends us to use as we work, play, learn, and relate to others, we enjoy the music of our days more and find ourselves less stressed. The writing industry, every branch of creative industries, as well as any undertaking profit when we all flow to the rhythm of God.  The church as we present it to the world might sound more harmonious and have a greater impact on the communities around us.
