Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Refrigerator Art

The front of my refrigerator may not be neat and tidy, but it tells a wonderful story. Papers held in place by magnets proclaim love, and hint at budding artistic talent while giving witness to the process of children growing up. Great Grandchildren’s artwork, notes, and pictures make us smile when we pass by. When the children see their things prominently displayed, it reinforces the thought that at they are important in our eyes. And tit for tat, the display always makes us feel loved by those precious little ones. No doubt, their parents and teachers had a hand in the sweet art we are privileged to display, but the children’s hands made the offerings. We love the reminder the display on the refrigerator supplies. We see how blessed we are to have these little lives to love. In my mind, it beats a neat refrigerator any day.

What items might we find as messy evidence of our relationship with God? A Bible with torn corners and crumpled pages signifies time spend in the Word. A list of prayer requests to use when we talk to God, or a pencil and notebook recording an insight gained from Bible time or prayer time. These items are worth whatever clutter they create. Even more evidence but less messy ones that can point to a relationship to God that quiets and blesses and testifies to a beautiful, helpful relationship with God. A smile during trouble. A soft calm, non- combative response to a verbal jab. A quiet ignoring of an insult with a caring pat on the shoulder. Most of the time, Christians are not even aware when they leave all kinds of helpful, non-hurtful evidences around them.

Children’s art reminds us to thank God for the gift of family and friends. Our refrigerator decorations also remind us to pray for the young children. To pray for their protection, their growth in their love for and trust in God. We can praise God for the evidences of the maturing process the refrigerator decorations provide, and thank God for the future He can guide the children toward, AND for the kiddos to cooperate with God’s plans.
