Snow
Snow is not an ordinary winter event where I live. As a result, it creates quite a stir. Snow closes activities that would not close in other climates. Schools close. People not proficient at driving in the white, skiddy stuff stay home. The mere thought of snow creates a rush on grocery stores for supplies to last through anticipated isolation. At the same time, people tramp outside with their phones or cameras to take pictures of the special kind of white, feathery beauty that only snow provides. Here, snow doesn’t usually last long enough to cancel many events, but while it does stick to the roads, it gives us reason to enjoy pastimes we may not normally make time for such as putting together a puzzle, sewing or indulging in a hobby such as embroidery, or painting, or using great chunks of time to read. If it is not absolutely necessary to drive somewhere, a snowstorm can provide us a chunk of leisure we would not ordinarily enjoy.
Hopefully, we won’t forget to use snow as a reason to talk to God. We can thank Him for the beauty snow creates. Ask Him to protect those who must drive in it and to give those who should not venture out the wisdom to stay inside. Thank Him for the variety it provides in our days and ask for His creativity to decide how we will spend the unusual time. Use snow as a stimulant to thank God for our lives, our days, our hours and to help us use them in ways that bless Him and profit others as well as ourselves.
