The Blahs
Every year brings nasty viruses or bacterial sicknesses to test our wellbeing. Sickness can easily leave us with a case of the blahs. My definition of blahs is something that causes us to feel lousy with no pep or no interest in anything beyond resting. Merrill-Webster Dictionary uses the words, lethargy, dull, dissatisfied. Blah says it all. Fortunately, it is usually a temporary state. Just reminding oneself of that fact is comforting. But we have help for the blahs. We can help ourselves out of the blahs by eating well balanced, nutritious meals, and getting enough rest. Taking our condition to God is the best first step. Our God doesn’t want us to dwell or linger in that state. He’ll show us, specific routes for each individual person to chase away our particular blahs. He will provide insights to find deliverance. One immediate way that will always change our outlook on life is to find someone who needs some help and provide it. It might be a meal, a letter, a gift, a chore accomplished, a task performed, or help with a bill. When we get our mind off ourselves and onto someone else, our emotional energy is renewed and a sense of satisfaction energizes us. Helping someone else’s need is a great way to pull yourself out of the blahs.
