Worn Out
Many of us remember or are in the midst of those exhausting days when sick kids, one after another, keep us up late and often during the nights. Or, we can remember the times our responsibilities piled up until our mind and days were crowded with no moments for ourselves in order to think straight. Regardless of how many children we have or even without children, sometimes our days or whole series of days are simply too busy for our own good. Sometimes this is the result of making too many commitments and sometimes circumstances beyond our control conspire to cram our days too full. Once we’ve caught ourselves growling at some innocent person who has nothing to do with our exhaustion, once we’ve collapsed into a chair without the energy to go one step further, once we find ourselves out of sorts with anything and everything, what can we do? That is a good time to throw ourselves on the mercy of God. Ask Him to rescue us and help us do what we must and recognize what we can put off until the crisis is over.
Once we are in the clear from whatever wore us out, thanking God for helping us, is a good first response. Next ask God to help us plan better, or say no better, or organize better. Ask Him what He wants us to be praying for about our situations. He knows better than we do. He’s ready and able to help us get through the unplanned emergencies as well as the things we brought on ourselves. He’s ready and able to help us avoid self-destructive patterns. He is our best, our first, our always resource. Thank you, God, for rescuing us.
