Kiss a Moose
I doubt kissing a moose is high on the list of most people’s wish list. Yet, there stood the youthful moose and the opportunity to plant a tentative kiss on her young cheek. She was a tall youngster quite comfortable with people crowding around her fenced off space. Given a big bundle of leafy branches, the young moose was distracted and gobbled down the tender leaves while the visitors to the animal refuge stood close enough to plant a kiss on the sturdy bristles of her long face. Cameras snapped to record the unusual activity.
While we observers probably never before considered kissing a moose, a number of the visitors didn’t pass up the opportunity. It’s safe to bet this wasn’t a big longing for any of us, but the opportunity brought smiles and made us think. Whether people realize it or not, many do long for a closeness to Jesus, and do want to linger in His presence. Drawing close to God is an important goal, worthy of pursuing. If we ask Him to help us draw close to Him, He will aid us to know Him better. Of course, that goal vastly out shines kissing a moose, and brings rewards vastly more important. One moment spent in the presence of the Almighty God will thrill us beyond compare, bolster our love and trust with Him, and enrich our soul. We don’t need any special way to attract God’s attention. He made each of us and delights to fellowship with us. He cares about us.
