Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Coronavirus
The TV news is enough to make us want to climb in bed, pull the covers over our head and say, “Wake me when it’s over.” How many young couples across the nation are experiencing the frustration of scraping eagerly awaited wedding plans? A huge disappointment, but everything is relevant. I cringe when I see the pictures of people dealing with flood waters in Ohio. Imagine that heartache in the midst of a dangerous pandemic. What about those with a death in the family? What do they do about a funeral with an attendance limitation of ten people? Sources of income are shut down. The entire nation is shaken. The entire world is shaken. The means of instant communication across the world makes a difference in this plague. We have means to know all the dreadful things going on in the entire world. Our minds stagger under the barrage of disasters—not to mention trying to sort out what news is true and what is skewed. These troubles were present even in biblical times. Matthew 24:6 tells us every generation will, “hear of wars and rumors of war….” The following verse says, “…And there shall be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.”
That same Bible tells us in Psalms 91:2 says, ‘I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust.”’ In the midst of this pandemic, we need to remind ourselves that God was with His people throughout all of human history, and now He is able to carry us through every kind of trial whether the results are what we want or not. He hears our cries for help. He cares about us. Even more He loves us and is able. In the midst of trials, we can use it to grow more thoughtful, develop more compassion, and grow in our ability to trust Him with the outcome. We always have the power and comfort of prayer. God, help us in the midst of this coronavirus to rest in You and to mirror the character of Jesus.
