Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Love
The little boy’s face crunched up into a twisted, unpleasant expression. Although he didn’t have the vocabulary to express his feelings, one could guess he was filled with a powerful, negative feeling. It was easy to look at this young bundle of pent up emotion and call it hate or anger. A helpless rage seethed, ready to dissolve into a cry of– what? Hurt? Dissolution? Disappointment? Rejection? Helpless to find adequate words or a helpful route to mend his situation, his feelings erupted in a cry of outrage. At two years old, we simply don’t have the skills to accurately define our feelings or the words to express what distresses us. Hopefully, a little one with these feelings has someone nearby to put a name to what he is experiencing and apply the restraint necessary to stop its repercussions. Mom was right there to bring understanding mixed with compassionate love. The right intervention combined with readily perceived love can turn a situation around and even modify the entire trajectory of a life.
Love. When God’s love overtakes and empowers our own version of love, then love becomes an amazing, powerful tool. The application of God’s love to any individual is an antidote which soothes much of what is wrong with mankind. Faced with anger, rage, or fury, ask for God’s love to overwhelm you and all those around you. Arguing and reasoning is a poor match to anger. Simply ask God and duck behind His genuine, divine love then wait and watch the atmosphere change in His timing.
