Oops, Tough Guy Image Collapses
Charlie is a very tall Golden Retriever who sometimes sits with head erect in a regal posture. That king-of-the-hill-look is often overcome by his dependence on his stuffed toys. No longer a pup, Charlie is still fond of carrying his cotton filled toys around and chewing on them when he rests. The kingly appearance melts into an overgrown puppy look. We chuckled at his fixation on his toys.
How often do we humans adopt an outward appearance of being in control and the master of our lives, but underneath we are chewing on some of societies toys? We chuckled at Charlie with his toys and stroked his head. As humans, a dependence on societies toys can actually hold us back, rather than helping us. Instead, we benefit from turning to God in those times we feel inadequate or insecure. In the privacy of our heart, we can talk to God about the things that trouble us and ask Him for His help, His insight. He cares about what bothers us. When we grasp His amazing love for us, we want to listen for His regal mercy to lead us to His solutions for the things that trouble us. By making God the center of our lives, we put ourselves in a position where we can stand tall in confidence that He loves us.
