Big Turtles

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Big Turtles

When at rest, the huge zoo turtles looked more like great boulders that fell off cliffs than the little hand-sized turtles one can purchase for home aquariums. These turtles moved about their zoo home at a slow pace that would drive mothers of young children loony were the youngsters to copy it. Large as they were, they weren’t menacing in any way, and a person would have plenty of time to move out of way of their massive feet. They seemed incapable of hurrying even to reach their food. They needed their bodies to warn them way in advance of needing food or water, because it was going to take a while for them to lumber over to their provisions.

Although the markings on their giant shells were quite attractive, and they have an impressive size, I don’t think anyone would want to trade places with a giant turtle. Although, there might be times when we would like to pull our head and appendages into a shell and pretend the world around us isn’t there, we don’t have to withdraw like that when we are in danger. Instead, our bodies are capable of quick movement. Instead, our brains are capable of communication with our maker. Instead, He can give us the figurative protection of a shell by directing our thinking and helping us find solutions to our problems. The quicker we remember to turn to God for our problems, the quicker we can find rest for our emotions. God, the creator of large, diverse creatures, enjoys us, His people. He is ready and able to guide, rescue, and bless us. Ask Him!
