Love Finds a Way
Cars are a blessing in a Pandemic. Some places still have drive-in movie theaters. Drive through fast food places maintains social distanting in a Pandemic. We bank via the drive-through. The Covid 19 Pandemic has given birth to new ways to use our cars. Drive-bys convey caring. People resorted to them to celebrate couples on their wedding anniversaries. Drive bys acknowledged graduations. They are a vehicle to express appreciation for magnificent medical care at hospitals.
My daughter arranged one for my birthday in 2020, a year infamous for six foot separation because of Covid. I was surprised by the powerful emotions aroused by the unexpected sight of beloved faces. I alternately laughed and cried as the cars slowly drove by, tossing out greeting cards as they passed. Best of all was the chance to exchange unmasked smiles with people I hadn’t seen in a long time. Clever people find ways to show love even in trying circumstances. The children of one family waved from the car’s opened roof hatch. (Safe because the cars creep very slowly as they pass). Sometimes, messages of love are drawn on the car windows.
Love demands expression. Thank God for cars to use in drive-bys, thank God for the post office which delivers letters and notes of affection, for the telephone to bring the sound of cherished voices to us. We are thankful for all the techie ways to connect and convey love like using smart phone’s capacity to talk and see one another at the same time. But nothing, absolutely nothing can substitute for face-to-face togetherness. One thing the Pandemic has taught us is to treasure our time together more than ever. Face to face is best. We can appreciate every nuance of personality even more when seeing someone after a long absence. We need to pray for God to open the doors for us to find ways to gather together. Thank you, God, for harnessing this virus and safely opening up gathering with treasured family and friends. The Bible tells warns us in Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. God help us find creative ways to assemble with our friends and family.
