Daddy Protection
Daddy and baby were enjoying one another Sunday Morning. Daddy held his baby in a standing position with his two big hands firmly around the 9 month old baby’s middle. When his young little knees buckled, Daddy’s hands kept him from falling. When the active baby leaned far to right or far to left, those strong hands kept him from falling. When he started to fuss, Daddy cradled him on his shoulder, nestled against his neck and the little one calmed.
How many times has my heavenly father kept my adult self from the consequences of making moves that could have carried unhappy results if He hadn’t protected me? I remember once when I was in junior high school, I was preoccupied with some disturbing something that had happened during the day–which I no longer remember. In that inattentive state, I stepped off the curb outside my school to cross the street without even noticing the car until it blew by me. The car whizzed past close enough to scare me and put an terrified expression on the face of the teen who drove it. With my heart thumping a fierce rhythm in my chest, I had enough sense to thank God. I knew I had narrowly escaped serious injury or possibly death. I wonder how many times our heavenly father protects us from the consequences of our thoughts or actions, and we don’t even realize it. Since we have more reasons to thank Him than we comprehend, it makes sense to regularly thank God for his protection even when we don’t know of a specific occasion. If we take time to consider His care for us and tell Him how much we appreciate it, we enjoy the peace that comes from acknowledging His love. We experience a comfort similar to a baby nestling against his daddy’s neck.
