Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Gadgets
The quilts hung for viewing amazed me. The skills to make them astonished me. Every bit as awe inspiring were the gadgets people invented to ease the creation of the quilts. A wide variety of gadgets were invented to make the job easier, faster, and more perfect. The man with the gadget that cut perfect circles, the booth that sold rulers that marked fabric for precise cutting, the backing that held intricate pieces in place for stitching, each invention contributed to the beauty and success of the quilts hung for admiration. Different talents, ideas, and skills yet equally important to the final result.
So it is with our society, Each of us contributes a part. We are all ‘cogs in a wheel’ to borrow an expression. Our part may not win prizes or be publically displayed for large crowds to see, but our role may contribute in some unnoticed way to the publically seen accomplishment. Our part may ease a person’s emotional or physical pain. Our contribution may speed up necessary chores, hasten the clean up from a meal, or allow a bricklayer to lay more bricks in a given time. From the invention of the safety pin to the giant earth digging machine, from the hours to paint a beautiful canvas, to time spent reading to a child and capturing a his imagination, every idea, skill, or invention contributes to another’s success. 1 Samuel 30:24 …The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as him who went down to the battle….. Everyone who contributes to a success shares in the reward of that success, if not here on earth, then at the judgment seat in the hereafter. Thank you, God, for the varied skills You give.
Quilt festivals take place all over the country. Even if you don’t make quilts, treat yourself to a quilt show. Besides quilts you will enjoy discovering fascinating gadgets useful for tasks other than quilting. A festival is a good place to grow our appreciation for people and talent.
