A High Seat

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
A High Seat

Her little face spoke delight even if she didn’t have the words. It was a, “Look at me, Mom,” moment as she sat proudly on top of the big tractor!” How pleased she looked on her unaccustomed perch. The baby on top of the tractor couldn’t have gotten herself up there by herself, nor could she be left alone so high off the ground with pieces of unforgiving, unyielding metal between her and the terrain if she fell. Never mind how much she enjoyed it, and what kind of fuss she would make if she was removed before she was ready.

Do we sometimes get ourselves into a position, or an opinion, or a situation we can’t gracefully get ourselves out of? We do. Sometimes we climbed into the awkward place all by ourselves, sometimes we were maneuvered there because of our desires for position or not recognizing how our thinking was taking us to an untenable place. This baby’s father was nearby to lift her off the tractor throne she was enjoying before she could fall off and hurt herself.  So, our heavenly Father is as near as a whispered call for help. He can show us when we’ve climbed into a stance or an opinion that is going to cause us to fall onto sharp edges, or He can rescue us when we’ve been led to a place which we aren’t ready for yet. God knows how to lift us off of thinking that isn’t good for us. This little one kicked and squirmed a bit when she was lifted down, but in a few moments, she was off to another attraction. We may kick and squirm when we are thwarted sometimes, but we can remember that God can help us grow and develop so we are the right size and think the thoughts that will benefit us and those around us if we will acknowledge His role in our life and ask for His protection and knowledge with each step of our way.
