A Special Day

Mother’s Day is a sometimes a day of mixed feelings. For some, it awakens a deep grief that motherhood has not happened. For others, a recent loss of a mother or a child makes Mother’s Day a nearly unbearable heartache. Much less traumatic, today’s transient society can cast a shadow over the day for many mothers because of the simple matter of geographic distance which makes celebrating in person with a beloved mother or child impossible. Yet, we have the blessing of telephones for instant communication; or, even more amazing, the ability to both hear and see our beloved ones via skype or facetime.

These modern inventions help us bridge the distances that separate us. Love isn’t diminished by distance even when the distance is Heaven. A parent’s love isn’t limited by distance, nor lack of sight or sound. Love transcends space limitations, human limitations. Neither is our heavenly Father’s love limited by the dimensions that seem so large, so immense to us. God’s love transcends all hindrances, our pulling away, our lack of understanding, our unbelief, or whatever barrier we humans encounter. His love is never diminished toward us. His love is unending. Whatever casts it’s shadow over our celebration of special days, He is ready to answer our longings, our aches, our lacks with His enduring love. By telling Him about the longings in our soul, we cast ourselves upon the sea of His mercy and grace. Tell Him and see how He will draw near to us and meet us with His love. He knows the best ways to pull us into His embrace and comfort us whenever we experience any feelings of distance.
