Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
A Thread
There it hung. One single leaf suspended over our outdoor steps. At first glance, the leaf had no visible means of support. But as it moved in the gentle breeze, I looked up and saw a solitary spider’s thread spun all the way to the roof overhang on our two-story house. What a very long thread a spider had spun. Certain this intriguing sight wouldn’t last long, I hastened into the house for my camera and took a picture before we left for our excursion. When we returned four hours later, we stood amazed that the leaf still hung there above our stoop. That was one strong thread!
We sometimes hear the expression ‘hanging by a thread’. We might say this when we feel like we are in a precarious situation, when we aren’t sure we can make it through a circumstance, or when our endurance seems exhausted, or our hope is especially challenged—as pictured by that solidary leaf on a thin web string. If a mere spider has the power and ability to make a thread which held a leaf on a breezy day through strong wind gusts, think what kind of thread our heavenly Father can weave to sustain us in the flurries of our lives. Our God wants to hold us up regardless of the winds that blow us. Sometimes we can’t detect the tough thread He offers to anchor us to Him, but there is no situation too difficult for God’s ability to hold us, to sustain us. Contrary to the spider, He loves us and cares about securing us when the winds of life blow. No matter how long the thread needs to be, nor how hard it is to see, God is there holding us.
