All to Myself
Mary’s Monday Musing to Quilt Encouragement
All to Myself
I love long drives. Time alone with my husband is a treat. In the car on a long trip, there are no doorbells to interrupt, no chores demanding attention, no schedule pressures. Just the two of us to talk to our heart’s content—to explore ideas, goals and discuss issues. Some of our best conversations about God take place to the accompaniment of the hum of our car on the road.
In the busy years of raising a family, finding time alone for conversation with our spouse presents a challenge. A walk together to the farthest border of our yard and back might be all the time we can get away. Use every step to the fullest advantage. Before the children descend again, use every stolen moment of togetherness to tuck in words of appreciation for one another as well savoring the private moment. Remember the busy child rearing years will eventually give way to the empty nest. Even after the nest empties, it pays to be intentional about time for conversation.
As our marriage benefits from time alone together, we also profit from making time for conversation with God. He understands when we squeeze our communication into the walk to the garbage can, but He rewards the time we intentionally manage to set aside to talk to Him. Somehow a worry seems lighter and cares become easier to bear when we discuss our daily concerns with God. I can image God savors our times we draw away to talk with Him just as much as I enjoy the conversations on a long drive.
