Anticipation
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Anticipation
Spirits can soar with delight when we are looking forward to something. We’ve had days upon days of delicious anticipation this summer. Visits from much loved family members gave us lots of delighted anticipation in advance of the actual visit. By the end of July, we enjoyed visits from two sons, two much loved daughters-in- laws, six granddaughters with husbands and a fiancé as well as numerous great grandchildren, including twins and one baby we had not seen yet. Our cup overflowed with glorious anticipation of joyful get togethers. What whets the ‘appetite’ of your anticipation brain cells?
Do we look forward to a “visit” with our heavenly Father with the same glad anticipation? Does God anticipate the time we spend communicating with Him? I think He does. Scriptures speak of his great love for us, so great that it is beyond our ability to totally understand. Judging from the Bible, God enjoys the time we spend seeking Him, talking to Him and basking in that great love. Are there days when we are less eager than others? If we are honest with ourselves, we know that sometimes we draw near more out of a sense of duty or desperation than enthusiastic anticipation. We don’t need to beat ourselves up, however. Our heavenly Father’s presence doesn’t depend on our faithfulness. It is a mere breathe away, we only need to breath a silent desire to know Him more deeply, and He will grant us our wish to draw ever closer to Him, to grow more and more in love with Him, and to perceive His love more clearly. Ah, dear Heavenly Father enlarge our heart’s capacity to love you.
