Anticipation Disappointed

Anticipation Disappointed
What about the happy anticipation that fails to materialize? Some disappointments may be momentary but easy to recover from because it was a small thing in our life, eagerly anticipated but not earth shaking. But sometimes a disappointment can be wrenching. The early Covid 19 Pandemic years provided a lot of them—lost loved ones, missed weddings, missed vacations, ruined businesses, lost jobs. Then what? What can we do? We find help if we re-affirm our concept of God’s love. When we throw ourselves onto our faith in His goodness toward His people and His unfailing love, we may be shaken but we can be strengthened in the midst of a disappointment. We can discover the truth of the scripture. “All things work together for good for those who love God….” Romans 6:28a.
We can ask for His intervention so that our faith remains strong. His guidance will direct our actions and reactions to our situations. We can lean into the thoughts that build our strength, that bolster our emotions. Seek out people who have survived such disappointments, seek out spiritual mentors to encourage you. Seek others who have steadfastly held onto God in times of disappointment. Read things that affirm God’s love. Listen to music that keeps you grounded in the love of God. Throw yourself onto the mercy of God to carry you through the trial of disappointment. Do something kind and helpful for someone else. It always refocuses us to help others in who are in difficulty. Helping someone else is a powerful antidote to disappointment in our own life. Switching our focus from ourselves to others is always beneficial. Disappointment offers a profitable time to fall on our knees and seek His help. 1Thes. 5:18, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
