Awe and Wonder

Put a little child in front of a large fish tank full of fish much bigger than the little one, and you will see expressions of awe and wonder. What fun to observe such enthusiasm and excitement. Seeing our surroundings through the eyes of a youngster helps us enjoy a healthy appreciation for the wonderful world our God made. Watching a babe enjoy small things helps us move past our usual preoccupations that keep us from seeing and enjoying ordinary sights to revisiting the delight of discovery via a young life.

Regardless what level of sophistication we think we enjoy, there is much joy in rediscovering our world through the eyes of a little child. God gave us a wonderful place to live and five wonderful senses to help us appreciate our surroundings to the fullest. We don’t have to have access to a little one to look around us with refreshed vision. All we have to do is ask God to help us appreciate our surroundings, to enhance our awareness of His creative wonders, to give us renewed pleasure in the wide variety of interesting people in our lives. When we ask for renewed insights into God’s wondrous creations, He will surprise us with heightened delight in our routines.
