Beloved Example
Smiles shone around the room. Eyes sparkled with delight along with a sheen of moisture caused by sheer joy. What a privilege to see my dear, ninety-nine-year-old Aunt after six years apart. Ah, what warm reminiscences and laughter we enjoyed together.
What an example this still lovely woman is for the entire family. A member of what many now call the greatest generation, my aunt lived through the anxieties and sacrifices of World War II as well as the vicious wars that have followed. She observed the rise of terror in our country and the fall of cultural standards. She battled separation from loved ones and cancer more than once, and she did it all with steadfast faith and a keen sense of humor which lightened the burdens. She always closed her telephone calls and every letter with a joke. We still can count on her to love each of us no matter what. We all hope we can follow her example at least a little. She makes no secret of her source of strength and cheer—her secure faith in her Lord and Savior. Now, in her old age, she models the importance of establishing our foundation on the solid rock of Jesus Christ as a bulwark for the troubles of life. God strengthen our walk with You so that we are able to shine a light of hope for others and withstand the difficulties of life.
Thanks for letting me know about this blog.
I will show it to Mom tomorrow, and I know she will appreciate it. She treasures your visit with her!
