Cheerful Red
One of our Christmas presents is still spreading its red cheer in our home. The gift of a living poinsettia spreads it’s uplifting red long after other decorations are taken down and packed away. What a beautiful flower God created to bloom at the same time we celebrate the birth of His Son. When the skies are cloudy and the temperatures chilly, the red poinsettia reminds us that the sunshine is still there, albeit behind the clouds; and God’s Son shed his red blood that we might live with him eternally. Now, that is the best Christmas present! These perfectly shaped little leaves are doing their bright-colored best to remind me of the best gift—eternal life. Imagine with me the delights of heaven. There may well be red flowers that don’t exist on earth. Who knows what gorgeous flowers we may see there? According to the Bible, there are streets of gold, however that looks. I imagine that our spirits will leap with joy at our reunion with our loved ones who went before us.
Above all, wonder of wonders, think about finally seeing Jesus face to face! I’m pretty sure at first, we will be face to the ground as we kneel in adoration and worship and open-mouthed wonder. What delightful flights of thought our flourishing poinsettia sets off! This year a beautiful little plant has become a tangible reminder of the future our perfectly amazing creator has designed for each of us. Every time I pass this perky plant, my thoughts soar to the perfect place God’s immense love has prepared for His people. Happy New Year to each of you who read this. May God’s love caress your lives in 2019.
