Cheetahs

Cheetahs
How majestic the Cheetah looked standing on the tall rock in the zoo. We were glad, however, when he fastened his eyes on our four-year old that a moat and a fence was between him and our little party of great grandchildren. He tracked her small form as she peered over the fence from various vantage points. Did she look like a fun toy to play with? Or perhaps a delicious snack? One of us looked up some quick facts on Cheetahs. They can run a cool 70 miles per hour. They can leap 20 feet. The boulder stood taller than the fence around his habitat. We eyed the distance from the top of the boulder to us. About 21 feet perhaps, but, surely, for a leap that far he would need a running start. Wouldn’t he? We were confident the zoo people were experts on cheetahs, kept them well-fed, and knew what was needed to contain this animal. We continued to admire the Cheetah’s sleek muscular frame and his spotted coat. At least his hind parts weren’t twitching from side to side like a kitty cat before they leap.
God made fascinating animals for our world. When He made mankind, He gave us minds to enjoy and learn about His critters. I like to think God enjoys His human creations even more than we enjoy His animal creations. To God, there are no moats or fences to prevent Him from leaping to us. When we need His reassurance, His love, His caring, we can invite Him to leap over the barriers of our thinking or our shortages of faith to come to our aid. God, hear our cries. Jump over the barriers in our hearts so that Your presence becomes more real to us day by day.
