Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Christmas
So many blessings of Christmas surround us during this Christmas season. Beautiful lights decorate homes and businesses. In stores, libraries and schools, we are treated with lovely Christmas trees sparkling with ornaments in numerous styles. Our mail boxes are filled with welcomed cards and letters from much loved friends and family members. We enjoy happy gatherings of friends over delicious tasting treats. Beautifully wrapped gifts invite us to discover their thoughtfully selected contents. Christmas carols, played and sung with enthusiasm, lift our spirits. All around us, the signs of Christmas delight us.
Beneath the trimmings of Christmas lies a treasure far more important than the ways we attempt to express our joy in this season. This treasure that is the foundation of our Christmas joy is God’s great love for us sent the Christ Child, our Savior, who was born to reveal God’s unfathomable love for us. God sent His Son to earth as a babe born in a humble stable, greeted by the songs of angels. Wise men traveled with gifts to greet the youth sent to walk on earth and reveal God to our hearts. The birth of Jesus set up a revolution of human relationships and brought new understanding of God. In spite of all the extravagances of Christmas and efforts to express the magnitude of the Gift of God to His human creations, we are reduced to falling on our knees in gratitude as we attempt to express our thanks for the magnificent gift of Jesus and His work in our hearts.
