Clouds
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Clouds
“It’s an old grey day.” A dear friend often commented whenever we had a string of cloudy, somewhat dismal winter days. The effect of days on end without sunshine has even earned a name in recent psychological writings. It’s called Seasonal Affective Disorder. SAD. One cure favored for a time was to sit under a certain kind of light. But a season of cloudy days always comes to an end with the sun breaking through to brighten our surroundings and our spirits. I love the sight we are sometimes privileged to see when lots of clouds bank the sky, but rays of light burst through the clouds in ribbons, reaching through to the earth. The sight makes me fantasize that if a person could travel through the clouds on that streak of brilliant light, one would find heaven at the end of it. The glimpse of light between clouds or shining around its edges delights us. It makes me think of God. Even when our lives are clouded with trouble or worries, He is there.
The Son of God is always with us behind the troubles of our lives. He will break through the storms that cloud our lives and provide the heavenly rays of his love. He will shine the light of his caring upon us. The catch is do we perceive it? But we don’t even need to struggle to do that. If we ask, He will help us learn to detect Him. He teaches us to discern His presence. Often it is in a small, little way. Ask Him to make us aware of the glimpses he provides of His involvement in our lives. He cares. We can rest in that even when the sun is hidden by clouds whether they are physical clouds or the dreary blanket of our misery or thinking. Just as the sun is always in its place in the universe, our God is always in His place in our lives. Let’s ask Him to enlarge our awareness of Him.
