Companionship
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Companionship
Somewhere in the heart of every young man, the spirit of adventure is alive and well. Put a couple of cousins together, and it’s likely to create some outward expression. First one and then two managed to scale these tall pier posts still standing long after the wood they once held was washed away. In a matter of seconds, all the cousins were perched on top of pilings, enjoying a new perspective of the beach and, amusing those of us on the ground. Everyone claimed they managed not to suffer any splinters from their scramble up and down.
There is something uniquely uniting in sharing an adventure, even one so small as a few minutes of pole climbing and balancing. Something done together cements relationships. Activities that allow adventurous young men to enjoy companionship while helping others creates a healthy bond. In addition, such activities offer opportunities for alienated young people to exchange feelings of being left out for a feeling of wholesome inclusion. Companionship can change the trajectory of that person.
God guide Your leaders to ways to reach out and supply opportunities which unite young people in affirming, healthy relationships with one another. Help each of us to use our words and actions to affirm the value of others. Pour out Your wisdom on how to restore the alienated. Help us use language to build up people and not tear them down.
