Competence

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Competence

Whenever we need medical help to recover from some health difficulty, we have an opportunity to appreciate the doctors and nurses who perform their skills with such competence as they work to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. We can consider the years a medical person has spent attaining the knowledge necessary to help us and appreciate the sacrifices of time, money and energy that went into that learning period. We can appreciate the risks that go along with their use of medical skills in this law-suit happy atmosphere. We can thank them for their willingness to try to help us despite these risks and sacrifices they make.

Most of our medical community work long hours assuming immense responsibility for our well-being. We can thank them for their care. If we have a significant complaint, we can refrain from grumbling about them to others and pray for them. We can remember they are humans with the same set of frailties common to mankind. We can be faithful to express our appreciation. Saying thank you in person can brighten the outlook of even the most distant person. Our words can gain even more impact when followed by a thank you note. Texts count as well but can’t be kept to reread and treasure long afterwards. Everyone, no matter what field they represent, enjoys discovering that their efforts have been noticed. Everyone can use the reinforcement that their efforts and sacrifices are appreciated. Let’s ask God to open our eyes wherever people have benefited our life and show us ways to make our appreciation known.
