Cousins
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Cousins
As an only child my cousins were of great importance to me. Older cousins taught me a lot about getting along with others. Little eyes are constantly watching and absorbing helpful principals when exampled around them. Younger cousins gave me lots of opportunities to learn how to entertain little ones and practice patience with others–and probably call the shots. All Cousins can be just plain fun. Cousins teach us a lot about love, about how to overlook flaws, how to forgive, and the benefit of qualities like loyalty and family values.
Now years later, it’s fun to watch great grandchildren cousins have fun together and make up new ways to play. Groups of children embellish ordinary activities with more delight because it’s shared. Watching nine cousins from one year old to eleven years old cavorting in a pool kept us smiling. It’s worth the effort and trouble to make a priority of getting cousins together. Noise combined with energy and enthusiasm brings the hilarious joy of togetherness. If you don’t have any cousins to play with, borrow the children of good friends or neighbors. Children can teach us a lot and bring a lot of happiness while making good memories. They also provide us with a lot of important reasons to pray for the future of these precious treasures.
