Crazy Robin

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Crazy Robin

The robin flew at my window over and over again. What did he see that made him take such a pounding and expend so much energy for a futile goal?  Was it the light in my room that made the inside of my house look as accessible as the out-of-doors? Or did he see his reflection and think it was another bird he should drive away from his territory? He continued to thud into my window for a long time. Finally, I closed my drapes in the hope that would stop his self-inflicted torture. My beautiful red-breasted friend flew off. I hope he used his God-given ability to fly in the environment God made for him, forgoing the lure of closed windows. I hope he soared high for bugs and pecked the ground successfully for worms. I hope his colorful chest swelled out in the cheerful Robin’s song of praise that lifts the spirits of us earth-bound humans.

What light beckons to me, to direct my energies toward a goal that isn’t what God designed for me. Do I sometimes bang myself up when tempted to enter into an environment not suitable to how I was created. God help me direct my vigor toward the goals you have for me. Help us all sing the songs of praise to You which will lift the spirits of our fellow earth travelers. Help us find and use those beautiful attributes you gave us to draw others to you and not waste them by banging ourselves up in futile activities and pursuits,
