Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Creativity
The eager children sat down to paint with their cousins. A shower curtain to protect the table, a paper plate to hold a squeeze of paint in several bright colors, a paint brush, and a piece of paper sets the stage for creativity. It really doesn’t matter what the resulting pictures look like. The kinetic activity of moving a brush where you want it, the experience of combining or mixing colors, and the activity to control hand movement is valuable no matter what you think of the results. We instinctively admire the results, regardless, because the process is beneficial.
The opportunity to make something is one way to create quieter moments and lessen the opportunities for discord which a gathering of children can produce. We adults can utilize the same use of creative activities to foster peace and calm. Find some creative activities, write, paint, knit, crochet, sew or perhaps use hand tools, or glue. Whether or not you work alone or with a buddy or a group of friends, a time to create something can lead to relaxation, calm and peace. Ask God what talents or skills He has planted in you and experiment with several to find what is your perfect way to tap into a sense of satisfaction that contributes to a happy, healthy outlook on life.
