Delightful In-Laws
Hugs all around, joyful faces, plenty of smiles and laughter warm our hearts when we get together with in-laws. Our times are marked by good will, sincere interest and caring. For some that might seem to be an unattainable utopia, a fantasy, or a paradise available only in dreams. We are blessed to enjoy in-laws who make a conscious decision to appreciate others and focus on the best in everyone. The result? Happy relationships!
Family occasions become delightful when each set of in-laws expect the best and look for the pleasant aspects in one another. Each human possesses a particular set of idiosyncrasies. It behooves us not to look for them in others. Our own idiosyncrasies are more than enough to concern us. Love is multiplied and happiness abounds when people get along. Getting along is a choice. When people approach every relationship with the respect due to people created by God, families can meld with the in-laws in ways that go way beyond politeness and endurance and enters into the realm of sincere caring for one another. Jesus told us to love one another. In-laws offer the most wonderful opportunity to put His example into practice. When hearts swell with love, we create wonderful events that builds family ties that enrich us all.
As in all our relationships, we can use them as good learning moments for what to do and what not to do, as opportunities to practice forgiving people, and always we can ask God’s help to keep harmony. We can pray for our own attitudes and expect to see Him bless us as we work together. How much better than smoldering resentments, hostile or competitive attitudes. We all benefit when we are willing to pray for one another, demonstrate sincere interest, and trust Him to correct our own idiosyncrasies.
