Drinking in Goodness

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement.

Drinking in Goodness

These two little ones were thirsty after a session of scrambling about the floor to play with cousins. The twins and their baby sister had never before met this section of their extended family. The active twins gulped down the drink their mama provided. They tipped their bottles up, to drain every last drop. Refreshed they resumed their wide-eyed observation of the happy, noisy activity around them, completely unaware of how their every action charmed their adoring audience, both young and old. Toddler twins have a way of becoming the center of attention. We were draining every last drop of enjoying those precious little girls before they left us the next day to travel back home—four long states away.

Two look-alike little girls don’t have to try to attract attention. They gain it simply by existing. When you add in their smiles and trustfulness of others, they were irresistible. The rest of us were drinking in their every move with the same enthusiasm they tipped up their water bottles for the last drop, we stayed alert for every cute motion.

I imagine God enjoys us a bit like we enjoyed the girls that day. When he created each one of us, He desired that we would want to drink deeply of His presence and to drain each day of all the drops of His marvelous ways. Life is richer when we learn to tip our heads back to absorb every last drop of His world. Regardless of where we find ourselves or what our situation, we can approach our lives with the enthusiasm of a little child. We can enjoy our surroundings, because God made them as well as the people around us. If we keep our eyes on the fact that the worth of each person lies in the fact God created them, we won’t have to work for attention of others. We’ll be too busy enjoying life to care. Life is precious. Like our mother’s told us, “Take good care of ourselves and be thoughtful of and kind to others.
