Engaged

 

 

News that a couple is engaged to be married usually brings smiles and words of gladness. There’s something about a relationship when it culminates in the intention to marry which brings a sense of delight and hope to people. A young, engaged couple starts marriage with happy expectations, and we on the sidelines cheer them on.  In spite of distressing statistics about the number of marriage’s which end in divorce, we hope with each engagement that this couple will sail successfully on the seas of matrimony. We give engaged couples showers to help them with practical items to establish a household. We participate in festivities around the preparation for the wedding and attend the actual marriage ceremony to wish them great happiness. It’s a joyful time for the couple and for all who love them.

 

 

All though it is different, our relationship with the church can be compared a little to a happy engagement.  When we discover that God loves us and sent his son, Jesus, who lived and died for us, we are so happy our joy soars. When we find a church that supports our new or renewed love for God we are as blessed as if we were given a shower. A good church helps us learn how to rest in His marvelous love and grow in our relationship with God.  When we enter into the life of the church, our joy prospers. Engaging in the learning, the worship, and the activities of the church brings warm happiness to our lives. We can pray for God to plant each of our loved ones in a good church to enhance their contentment and bring them gladness.
