Extra Large Tulips

Extra Large Tulips
We marveled at the perfusion of gorgeous tulips in a lovely colonial garden. In addition to their vibrant colors and the charm of their bell shaped blossoms, they were enormous. The blossoms were so large that their stems bowed under the weight. The unusually large flowers were too heavy for the size of their stems.
I don’t know if they were a specific type of tulip that grows extra large, or the plants were fed a particular fertilizer that stimulated flower growth but not foliage. They could have been the product of genetically engineered plants to achieve enormous blossoms.
Regardless, they were lovely and made us think. Do we work hard to achieve lovely appearances, to make an impression, to develop our skills and talents, while we don’t at the same time fertilize or develop our spiritual character? Do our ambitions and goals become too heavy for our under-developed soul to hold up? Do we droop like those tulips because we’ve not fed our spirits as much as we’ve feed the visible part or our lives?
What can we do to ensure the stem of our spiritual life is strong enough to hold the flower of our daily lives? We can use precious time to nourish and tend to our spirits so our spiritual side keeps pace with the care and development of our body and soul. We can expose ourselves to opportunities to develop our spiritual life. Best of all, we can ask God to help us grow spiritually so that the stems of our spiritual lives are strong enough to hold the flowers He purposes for us to blossom in the sunshine of life as well as in the storms of life.
