Friendship

Mary’s Monday Morning to Quilt Encouragement

Friendship

What a delight to answer the phone to find it is from a good friend who lives too far away to see in person.

Despite the benefits of texts, there’s something especially satisfying and more intimate when you are able to hear a person’s voice. When you can add the ability of actually seeing the person while you talk via a program such as skype, the visit is the next best experience to actually being there where you can reach out and touch a hand or give a hug.

Caring friends, who are genuinely interested in your life and wish you well in every aspect of your life, ranks as one of the most splendid blessings life can offer.  Friends who listen to your concerns, offer sympathy for the hard times, and cheer about the good ones are to treasures worthy of protecting and nourishing.  A telephone call does a lot to refresh such a friendship.

Even the best of friends, the most faithful of people, will disappoint us at times and have spells when they aren’t available to us. But we always have unrestricted access to God. He cares at a higher level any friend can summon up, wants to listen to us, and has the capacity and the desire to guide, protect and shepherd us through life.  It costs nothing and doesn’t require any special programs to meet with us.  All we need to do is tell God we are ready to talk to him, and He is ready to listen. We can be natural with him, He doesn’t require a special vocabulary, or a particular position to listen to us. We can tell him our greatest concerns and deepest secrets. He already knows what burdens us, and He can quiet our soul, comfort our hearts, and inspire our thoughts. He is a great friend, indeed. John 15:15 says “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” Let’s take time to talk with Jesus and leave a time of silence to listen with our hearts for what He wants us to hear in our inner being.
