Today I found the perfect Christmas gift for a loved one. It seems every Christmas, one gift will stand out as the best present of the holiday, because it is exactly right for the intended recipient. The gift is not perfect because it is costly but rather because it reflects the person’s interest, his taste, his personality. When I find that special gift, I love to share the excitement with several family members so more of us can anticipate the delight of the person opening the gift. We all stop conversations, and other gift opening to concentrate on the opening of the perfect gift. There is more joy in that moment than in the opening of all the other nice and thoughtful gifts. Watching the opening of the perfect gift is more fun than opening our own gifts. I resist the temptation to give the gift early because the opening is a treat for everyone there. Instead we wait and our pleasure is multiplied by the waiting.
I think God is like that. He knows the perfect gift for us, and he doesn’t give it to us early.
He know the best time to delight us. Always his gift is perfect. It fits our personality, fits the interests he’s fostered in us, and fits our lifestyle. Regardless of whether His gift is the satisfying of a dream, the rescue from a dilemma, or as simple as a gorgeous flower along the roadside, I think He enjoys our delight in receiving the gift from Him even more than we mere humans enjoy gift giving. When God blesses us, he’s the supreme multi-tasker and the gift accomplishes more than one glorious moment of delight. He has multiple goals in mind. When we give a perfect gift at Christmas, our focus on it and anticipation of it alerts the person of the importance we are attaching to the gift. In order to recognize the perfect gifts God gives me, I need to focus on Him every day so I will fully appreciate His gifts when they come. God help me develop the habit of looking for You in every sight, every conversation, and every activity of my day. Thank you for all the ‘Perfect’ gifts you have given me. Help us recognize your delight in presenting us with blessings and to never forget to thank you.
