God’s Love

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

His Love

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Matt 22:37. Sounds simple? Hold it. All my heart means I love my God with every facet of my love. It doesn’t mean I can’t love anyone or anything else, but everything else takes second place. All my soul means all of my emotions, my responses are centered on Jesus. I don’t know about you, but other responses sometimes show up first. All my mind means all my thinking, and whatever wisdom a person might possess, but I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when my first thoughts are sometimes less than Godly. Before I judge others, I would profit from discerning the condition of my heart, soul, and mind.

But it doesn’t matter if I’m discouraged when I look internally and find I fail the “Total love test.” He loves me anyway. He loves you anyway. REGARDLESS, He loves us. He knows what fashioned the way we love. He knows what triggers our emotions, and our basis of thinking. He understands what contributed to all these aspects of our being, and He knows why we struggle when we do. He sees what challenges our Christian consistency. Just as we pick up our little ones and hold them close when they fall and stumble, God is even more ready to pick us up and point us once again in the right direction. He doesn’t cuff us around because we fail. He tenderly picks us up, brushes us off, and continues to make His immense love available. It only takes a tiny thought in His direction to connect again with the Great I AM. Asking God to help our journey toward loving and trusting Him more and more with our entire being is a powerful and profitable prayer.
