Gold Finches
What a treat we’ve enjoyed these past few weeks at our bird feeder! Bright yellow gold finches have decorated our back yard. Their glorious color and penchant to spend plenty of time leisurely feeding gives us ample opportunity to enjoy their beauty. We’ve loved the flashy red cardinals, the brassy blue jays, but the blaze of the yellow birds are a first for our yard. Most of the birds that dine in our back yard are a study in the variety of browns and grays. We are charmed by the different shades of brown and gray as they flit about and flash their distinctive markings, but the unusual visits of the beautiful yellow birds, bring a special delight.
The makeup of our bird guests reflects the normal flow of life experiences. Days go by with the usual, the ordinary, the routine and then some lovely event or activity or person will light up our life for a delightful moment in time. Anything from an insightful comment a person makes to the long feeding of an evening spent doing something we enjoy provide those flashes of delight that make our lives sparkle with satisfaction. We don’t have to dress in flashy yellow like these finches or be entertaining like the brassy blue jays, to find special joy in life. A moment spent in prayer, reading a profound thought in a book, a compliment from a friend all provide happy flashes of yellow in our lives. We can ask God to help us enjoy the browns of our lives and to help us take time to properly appreciate the flashes of gold He sprinkles across our days.
