Good Friends
Ah, what a delight and privilege to see old friends! Friends with whom one shares years and years of past history and lovely memories bring comfort and joy to our days. What regret we feel when an out of town move creates physical distance that makes the contact harder. But life’s one guarantee is that things will change. One happy change which makes physical separation easier is the ability to communicate more quickly via computer and telephone, to share pictures and even talk and see the loved one in real time via skype and such connecting methods. In by-gone days, a letter could take months to travel across the United States let alone across the ocean. A separation carried much less opportunities for contact.
A good friend is moving out of state. A wise decision for her, but one that brings the pangs of separation. However, think of the old cliché, ‘out of sight, but not out of mind’. In this age of constant technical advances, we can remain connected in spite of physical distance. It’s only a matter of following through on our intentions to stay in touch. Determination is a key to maintaining long distance relationships. If we think about it, determination is a root to our maintaining our relationship with our God. He is available to our thoughts and prayers. He wants to visit with us. We don’t need technology to connect to him. We can simply talk to Him. Developing the discipline and the habit of frequently turning to him in thought, prayer and conversation will bring us a satisfying sense of His love for us. Conversation with God can unsnarl sticky situations, solve problems and comfort our souls. As we practice drawing near to him in our thoughts, in prayer, and in attending joint worship services, we slowly gain a deeper sense of relationship with our God. Our friendship with God becomes enriched and grows deeper. Take a moment and tell God about what’s going on right now in your life. The limits of time and space need not affect our ongoing relationship with God. He’s tuned in, waiting on us to complete the connection.
