Hearing Our Shepherd

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

 Hearing Our Shepherd

Not a sheep was in sight when our bus pulled up to the fenced-in pasture outside the barn. We sympathized with the animals. The inside of the barn offered welcome shade from the hot sun. “Never mind,” our guide said. “As soon as I call, they’ll come. They know my voice.” Sure enough, she stepped out of our bus and called toward the barn. Immediately a couple of sheep appeared in the doorway.  She called again, and all the sheep rushed out and headed for the feeding troughs scattered about. Their Shepherd went from one to another scratching their ears and patting their heads and backs.

Do we hear our Good Shepherd as clearly as those sheep did?  Do we respond as quickly to His call as the sheep did?  What made those sheep come so readily to our guide? She feeds them, and they come out of desire for food.  Also, she paid them attention, talking with them, stoking their backs, and scratching their ears.  She was their friend who cared for their welfare.
