Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Heat
One hot weekend this summer, twelve of our family tromped around Washington D.C. to see a few of the sights. The fellowship was wonderful and the sights delightful. The only drawback was the ninety-seven degree heat bouncing back from city streets. We moved slower, but no one grumbled, and our enthusiasm didn’t lag in the heat. We were together. From the youngest, age two, to the oldest, age eighty-one, we walked and walked, ooed and ahhed, and chatted. When we ran out of the water we brought with us, one of our group generously bought a rehydrating supply for all of us from enterprising men with coolers of ice parked at appropriate spots along the sidewalks. Air-conditioned museums also offered respite. Undeterred, we had a lovely time enjoying one another.
Time together with people we love is worth inconvenience and discomfort. Even a heat wave of problems and distressing situations fade in the cooling effect of time spent with beloved people. It’s worth our while to overcome whatever hassles and nuisances tempt us to forsake gathering with family. Embrace the privilege of togetherness, use the time to thank one another for their love, and thank God for allowing our lives to intersect.
