Heroes
Mary’s Monday Musing to Quilt Encouragement
Hero’s
Sometimes we don’t have to look far to find a hero. Sometimes they are people in our own little circle. Sometimes heroic acts are not dangerous or dramatic but simply acts that change and strengthen someone way beyond what others would suspect. Our son-in -law carried box after box to storage day after day as we emptied out the house. He’s our hero. These last few weeks several heroes came to our rescue as we moved into a new home. Our daughter packed and packed and packed for us. She texted the family to enable us to down-size without regret because many of our belongings would end up in the homes of our beloved children and grandchildren. Others guided us through the process, brought us boxes, food, and encouragement. The moving company’s efforts to treat our belongings with care made the day reassuring. Do you know how like a hero a person appears to those moving when someone brings food in at the end of a long day? A friend’s long hours to bring order out of chaos felt like heroic love to us. How wonderful it feels to bring order by finding new locations for each item removed from boxes by helping hands. Then there is the hero who hangs the pictures, puts up the hooks, and connects us with Wi-Fi. We thank the heroes of our move.
We saw Jesus in each of these actions. Just as a move is a new start in many ways. Every day offers us the opportunity to provide some sort of help to others, if not a physical move, simply a change of heart. Let’s keep our eyes open for opportunities to help someone to make a new start. God make us sensitive to how we can best serve others.
