Holes
The huge rock structures shone a golden red as they towered across the landscape in Utah’s Arches National Park. We exclaimed our amazement and delight, craning our heads to see the wide variety of colossal wonders. Over and over the massive rocks formed impressive arches from holes that nature had made when water caused sand and salt to erode from the massive structures, leaving vast openings in the formations One group was called windows, another double arches. The Park attached whimsical names to the many other types of unique configurations. The name gossips belonged to a grouping of three tall towers topped with round rocks resembling heads, another with sheer sides was called Park Avenue. We saw mile after mile of immense, mouth-dropping sights, all the result of wind, water and erosion. The park was full of people appreciating these mountains of artful structures from worn-down rock. The beauty filled us with awe.
Do we sometimes fret over the holes and erosion we see in our lives, our souls, our relationships? The same God who used the chemical processes that formed these unique and highly pleasing sights out of a what was a process of erosion is able to take what seems to be holes and cliffs left in our hearts and souls and make them into something pleasing. God can take the structure of our emotions and personalities and form a pleasing benefit to the Kingdom of God. God, please, take the erosion in our lives and form it into something useful and inspiring to others. Take what we could call regretful and use it for good.
