Legacy of Love

Legacy of Love

Grandmother’s have a special role whether we recognize it or not. What will our grandchildren remember about us after we are long gone to our reward beyond the veil? What will produce a treasured memory in the hearts of our grandchildren? It might be the smell of something delicious cooking. Or, perhaps the memory of a warm and lasting hug. Perhaps lap time reading aloud to our grandchild. What do you remember about your grandmother? Were you privileged to have one live long enough to create memories in your heart and mind? Search your memories for the ones that inspire you. Bask in the memory of consistent love.

I remember snuggling on the ample lap of my Grandmother, secure in that safe place of love. Sometimes it was for childish play, (This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home.) Sometimes it was for comfort. All times, the snuggling conveyed love. As I grew older, time with Grandma often brought words that deposited bits of gems for me to use in later decisions. Always, the love I experienced from her formed a response in me that didn’t want to disappoint her. She elicited that response in all her grandchildren. Her love was unconditional, and we were secure in it. We didn’t want to bring her worry, although looking back, we probably did.

Regardless of who our grandma was, what our relationship with her was, or whether or not we have grandchildren ourselves, God help us impact the lives of others with the kind of love that comes from You. God, help us plant a love in our relationship with the younger generation that warms the hearts of those we come in contact with, that inspires a love in them which will warm other hearts in turn. Help us leave a legacy of love that inspires those in our circle of influence to love in turn.
