Lifting Heavy Loads
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Lifting Heavy Loads
The crane was huge. When it drove up, its boom required a long truck bed to carry it. It appeared even longer when it was hoisted up in the air and hovered over another large truck bed to pick up an immense air conditioning unit. Several wide, strong straps attached the crane’s boom to its load, the 7,000-pound air-conditioner. The massive crane cranked the boom up until it’s dangling burden hung in the sky higher than the three-story building. The boom swung it around before lowering it onto the cradle previously positioned on top of the roof to receive the load. Such a heavy load, hanging far away from the truck base could tip over the enormous truck except the crane’s load was balanced with two long, wide steel beams firmly attached to each side of the truck, weighted and suctioned to the pavement with large round discs.
This impressive sight made me think of the people and the ingenuity behind such a feat– the minds that thought up the machinery and braved the risks to perfect it. God knows how to inspire the kind of creativity that allows us to raise all kinds of loads and amazing inventions, bringing amazing results. Even more amazing, God also knows how to lift each one of us up to rise high above the challenges of our life. Thinking of this scene I witnessed, I want to be quicker to seek His inspiration to haul me up in spite of whatever heavy load I may carry at the moment. We can find balance and anchorage in order not tip over when heavy issues in life could unbalance us and tip us over. We can achieve good-grounding in the love, mercy and power of our God. God, help us to depend on you more completely, love you more totally, and lean on you to empower us in every situation.
